The Uganda Catholic Charismatic Renewal (UCCR) is joyfully united with the universal Catholic Church and is fully affiliated with CHARIS (Catholic Charismatic Renewal International Service) — the single, unified service established by the Holy See for all expressions of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal worldwide. CHARIS was officially launched on 9th June 2019, the Solemnity of Pentecost, by mandate of the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life, under the direct authority of the Holy Father, Pope Francis. It serves as a visible expression of the unity and communion of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal across the world, in service to the Church’s mission of evangelization through the power of the Holy Spirit.
As UCCR, we joyfully share in the threefold mission of CHARIS:
1. To deepen and promote the grace of baptism in the Holy Spirit throughout the Church. 2. To serve the unity of the Body of Christ, fostering communion among the different realities born of the Charismatic Renewal — prayer groups, communities, ministries, schools of evangelization, and more. 3. To encourage service to the poor and works of mercy, as a fruit of life in the Spirit.
UCCR actively collaborates with CHARIS Africa and participates in international initiatives, formation programs, leadership summits, and mission-oriented activities that seek to renew the Church from within. Through this affiliation, UCCR remains firmly rooted in the Magisterium of the Catholic Church, while being open to the dynamic workings of the Holy Spirit in our time. We are blessed to stand in communion with the global family of the Renewal, under the leadership of CHARIS, and in fidelity to the vision of the Holy Father.
